Papercraft Objects: The first Prototype

Papercraft Objects: The first Prototype

Pt.1: Brainstorming

Afterthinking long and hard about objects that were personal to me, I had many ideas, some were awards I had won, art pieces, small objects from back home. However, all of these ideas were ones that seemed to not translate well into Rhino. However, after a nice phone call with my little sister who is currently planning her grade eight graduation, I had an idea for a small little gift that might make her nostalgic. Back in 2010, my family decided to take my sister to the movies for the first time, the movie was tangled.

In this movie, there are some beautiful scenes, however, there is one that always caught mine and hers eyes: the lantern scene.

After playing around in rhino for some time I designed a small lantern that could actually hold a small candle. I thought this would be an amazing little gift for my sister and it would make her day.

Pt. 2: The Templates and First Prototype

After quite some time formulating my templates, I was quite happy with how they turned out. However, after ALOT of struggle with printing them, and some frustration along the way I learned that the viewport in the program affects the printing process. Of course I learned this after four different tries. Overall, this may have been a frustrating process but I think I learned to trust the process much more.

My first prototype however, was quite the process, which turned on me. Between a long hospital trip prior to the due date messing with the quality of the object and some of the pieces not fitting together due to the moon shapes being inverted and the tabs not connecting, I realized that I was unhappy with the final result of my prototype.  However, after a phone call with a friend as I needed to vent the day of class, as I had nothing to show for work, I realized that the porotype was about accepting the issues of the model and fixing them for the next due date.
