OBJECTIFIED: RESPONSE: The timeless Steinway by Marina Dawson
The Timeless Steinway
After watching the documentary Objectified, I felt inspired to think about an object that does not end up in landfills like the toothbrush discussed in the film and an object that happens to be connected to one emotionally. That is where I began to think about items that always retain its value, no matter how old or beaten up it may be, a truly timeless object. I thought about Chanel purses, Nikon camera's, and even Typewriters and how people still recycle or collect these vintage items to this day. Yet, after thinking about my childhood and all of the piano practices and recitals I attended, I realized that the most timeless object of my life was a Steinway piano. The brand of piano that has been around since 1853, and to this day had never seen a landfill because of its quality and influence to pop culture, such as being the only type of piano Billy Joel would play. That is why I was inspired to create this 3D model through Tinker Cat and why I think this project was such a pleasure do to.
