Mesh Mashup and Refinement Assignment
Mesh Mashup and Refinement Assignment
By Marina Dawson
After talking to my peers about what design I should choose I finally settled on the tentacles in a bathtub scene that I had created in Tinkercad. I listened specifically to peoples recommendations based on the fact that this design seemed to tell a story. I was told by my peers that this model gave them chills and that, with the right tools in Mesh Mixer or more advanced programs, I could make this 3D model almost like a poster to a horror movie. Additionally, I realized that with this model in particular, I had a lot more creative freedom in more advanced programs to add smaller details such as rounding out the tentacles, adding a water effect to the bathtub, some interesting bubbles or shine to the tiles on the floor. Thus, I decided that this critique would in fact influence my decision to go forward with this 3D and I picked through some of the points made by my peers that I would then expand upon and refine in Mesh Mixer.
Although this concept may have been somewhat simple, I do feel as though it did relate very strongly to remix culture. I took something so simple like a bathtub, in which the original creator may have made for people who want to spice up their 3D bathroom designs and combined it with a very unique design of a Kraken, which I believe is a great mashup. Not only do those two concepts heavily contrast each other, but when combined, there is a juxtaposition between the two that make a very interesting concept, one that even tells a story. This relation, making viewers uneasy and even creating a horror-like scene that makes me think "I would never want something slithering around in my bathtub". Mashing up these models emulates the importance of remix culture, and how having fun with these programs nurtures creativity. And I very strongly feel that when mashups are properly done remix culture thrives as our society loves to see creativity.
